Vilac Tabletop Shadow Theatre

There's something about dimming the lights that makes children go quiet in the best possible way. No screens, no noise, just your child holding a little felt dragon up to the glow of a lamp and deciding, completely on their own terms, what happens next. The Vilac Shadow Theatre is one of those toys where you set it up once and then just... watch. It's the kind of evening that makes you feel like you absolutely nailed it.
We love it because:
- The shadow play is genuinely magical. Pop a lamp behind the fabric screen, hold up one of the felt silhouettes, and the story writes itself. A dragon, a witch, a princess, a castle... the dramatics practically take care of themselves.
- When the screen comes off, it becomes an open stage for puppet shows and role play, so it doesn't sit in a corner gathering dust between story nights.
- It's beautifully made in wood by Vilac, a French toy maker with over 100 years of craft behind them. It feels like a proper piece of kit, not a one-evening wonder.
- It grows with them. Younger children love being guided through a tale; older ones will be writing, directing and performing their own epics before you know it.
- It does something wonderful for storytelling confidence. There's something about performing behind a screen that makes even the shyest child find their voice.
What's in the box:
- 1 wooden tabletop theatre
- 1 removable fabric screen
- 15 black felt silhouettes (dragon, prince, princess, horse, witch, castle and more)
