Cafe At The Edge Of The Woods (PB)
£7.99
Running a café beside an enchanted wood sounds dreamy, right? Rene certainly thought so. The problem is that when your regulars are the kind of creatures who live in enchanted woods, "the finest cuisine" takes on a somewhat different meaning, and the specials board gets complicated very quickly. This is a gloriously silly picture book about food, fairy tale tropes turned delightfully upside down, and a waiter called Glumfoot who is, frankly, doing his best. It will be read aloud at full volume, probably more than once, and you will not mind at all.
We love it because:
- The humour is perfectly pitched: funny for children, genuinely funny for the grown-up reading it out loud.
- Glumfoot is an instant classic picture book character, quick-witted and completely loveable.
- It plays with fairy tale expectations in a way that feels fresh and original.
- Mikey Please's illustrations are full of character and completely impossible to rush past.
- The kind of book that gets requested again and again at bedtime (consider yourself warned).
