All About Us…
My Small World is a small bunch led by Dawn, Iris, Lizzy and Kizzy the Office Cat (who doesn’t have any particular skills but likes sitting on the printer…)
We set up My Small World up in 2005 when Dawn struggled to find great, sturdy, well designed and funky toys for her two children. She began roaming Europe (purely on the web, to begin with – having two children under two meant that doing anything exciting meant doing it virtually!) and became besotted with some of the amazing designs emerging from France and Germany. Unsurprisingly, Dawn’s friends also fell in love with the toys arriving in brown boxes, and after each delivery a mini scramble ensued, leading to what might be described as a ‘light bulb moment’. (Quite impressive considering the mental haze a year or so of no sleep had caused!)
Initially, My Small World was simply a small and beautiful store in the heart of Bath, filled to the brim with toys and games from the most amazing toy manufacturers in Europe. Six years on, and we’ve garnered awards and praise, and become renowned nationally for finding superb new products from brilliant designers… Heard of Djeco? My Small World were the first to introduce the range to the UK! Nowadays Dawn has thrown her virtual European tours aside for real life excursions to France, Germany and beyond!
We also love taking the My Small World Experience way beyond our doors…We’ve held street parties to celebrate our birthdays, taken 70 children to the countryside for the infamous ‘Big Egg Day’, created a Father Christmas Grotto from heaven and instigated ‘Champagne and Tissues’ for our Mums and Dads who have dropped their children off at school for the very first time…
What do we love most about My Small World…YOU! Dawn gets grumpy if she’s stuck in the office too often, because being in the thick of it in the store it what we all enjoy the most… finding you the perfect present, solving difficult gift dilemmas, packing bags and buggies, sending out beautifully filled parcels all across the UK, finding lost shoes, carrying big exciting parcels to the car, cuddling restless babies (our favourite bit!), putting together partyware, packing goody bags and running our amazing activity sessions is what makes our world go round.
We know that being busy, wether at home or at work, means that there is very often precious little time for doing something special. We figure that even if you only have half an hour of real quality time with your children during the day, then it might as well be brilliant – and become the stuff that memories are made of!!
So, whether it’s bathtime, a trip in the car, a wander round the garden, reading a book during a rainstorm, building a brick tower, learning to ride a bike, putting dollies to bed or eating supper – we want you to have the the best time, with the best choice of toys…and we’re doing all we can to find them for you!
